In case you’ve missed me saying this the past 500 times, La Lola is generally not a fan of the romantic suspense novel. I usually skim the pages that talk about how Über Villain is laughing maniacally with his usual band of merry sidekicks about how he’s going to dangle the hero over a pit full of ravenous sharks.

Beastie boys

“Midnight Angel” is the third in Lisa Marie Rice’s “Midnight” trilogy, and features a beauty and the beast premise. La Lola is a sucker for beauty and the beast plots, and no prizes for guessing which is my favourite fairy tale. I drove Sheridan and Mimi a bit crazy for a while, insisting that every time we hosted a dinner party we had to put on French accents while singing “Be Our Guest” and twirl around trying to dance with the furniture. “Midnight Angel” doesn’t come complete with talking crockery and an enchanted castle, but it’s a modern twist on the Beauty and the Beast legend that’s very sweet. That is if you ignore the explicit sex scenes, but why would you want to?

Armed and dangerous

“Dangerous Lover” by Lisa Marie Rice
Lisa Marie Rice’s book “Dangerous Lover” is a good choice for a snowy winter’s day. It’s the equivalent of hot chocolate with a dash of brandy to spice things up. And Jake Prescott, hero of “Dangerous Lover” is one hot toddy, s’all I’m saying.
