I think that Elizabeth Vaughn maybe an acquired taste. I love her books. I love the characters however more important I love the worlds she is creating. The cultures, the customs, the languages. I dig in and look for references in different mythologies, in anthropology, history and ancient languages to trace her inspirations. For me it's a lot of fun. However I like working physics problems and betting on horses. And I still enjoy science fiction and fantasy novels and I think she falls more into that genre than she does into the romance genre.

Franklly, I was surprise to see the uhmm "ladies" at Ripmybodice read and review this book. Didn't think it would be along their line of reading. That said...I still think that they would prefer Sasha Lord's Across a Wild Sea. It has all the good stuff and a far better story of redemption in it.

I always pictured a Zena, Warrior Princess setting to this world when I read Dagger Star. I still haven't gotten to White Star, but after your review, I'm having second thoughts. However, Lyndsey is very right. Dagger Star really sets up White Star.

I thought Elizabeth Vaughn's Warprize, book 1 in her Warlands trilogy was her best book, though.

The important question was never answered...Did you ever get your chocolate cake? Oh yeah - were there any love scenes at all in this confusing sounding book??

Ahh you jumped into the series without reading the first book. GO back and read Dagger Star. It lays the ground work for this book and the series.

I see that you didn't enjoy the book, I however thoroughly enjoyed it. Not as good as Sasha Lord Across A Wild Sea...however still a nice little read.
