Dr. Mcdo (me)

“Pleasure Unbound (Demonica series, Book 1)” by Larissa Ione

My fellow human beings,

If it transpires, at any point in my life, that this world is populated by sexy hot demons, let it be known that I will not hesitate to abandon humanity and join ranks with them. No no! Do not try to dissuade me of my choice. My mind is clear. Made up! I’ll be packing my bags in readiness so that I’ll be able to leave in a moment’s notice. Because ever since JR Ward came into my life, I’ve pretty much been toying with the idea. Then came Kresley Cole to shove me that much closer to the edge. Christine Warren didn’t help very much either. So when Larissa Ione came along, with her breed of breathtakingly gorgeous, possessive, and fiercely protective sex demons - my humanity didn’t stand a chance. SEX demons people! Demons that thrive on sex and whose nature is to pleasure women. Come on.  How can any mortal human male (and female) stand a chance?

Eidolon (no last name) is one such particular demon. To be more specific, Eidolon is a Seminus demon; a group of peace-loving demons (males only (thank you Jesus!)) who look ridiculously hot, ripped and gorgeous and who search their whole lives for mates. Without such a reassuring female presence in their lives, Seminus demons are hunted post S’genesis (i.e the Big Change) as they are unable to control their sexual urges; thus running rampage around town having sex with human and demon females. Honestly I don’t see what the big deal is. I believe we could all use a couple dozen post S’genesis Seminus demons running around. I for one would like to place an order for 2. So that each will be able to have fortifying rest while the other works. Hard. In addition to being some kind of chocolate candy man sex god come to life, Eidolon is also a doctor. That’s right ladies! We’ll definately be able to take this one home to mother!

Sworn to heal and protect his fellow demons (regardless of whether they’re good or bad), Eidolon runs UGH (the Underworld General Hospital; possessor of an unfortunate acronyom) with a group of other assorted demons and humans (lucky bitches) such as a half breed vampire Seminus demon (Wraith) and a werewolf (Luc). Eidolon is the very definition of a good guy: upright, loyal, patient, kind, domestic (he later cooks a plate of pasta for the too lucky Tara), sexy, and good-tempered. Not many of those around here nowadays. His hippocratic oath is shaken however, when his paramedics bring in an Aegis slayer, whose hurt pretty badly. Now the Aegis is a group of highly trained and skilled humans who hunt, kill and torture demons indiscriminately; who think all demons are shades of that flapping skin creature in Jeepers Creepers. In addition to treating her wounds (and finding out something rather startling about her), Eidolon also feels compelled to treat her to his penis (lucky bitch) but is stopped by the “wrongness” of the situation. However, this was before Wraith, the half breed vampire managed to enter her mind and force graphic sex fantasies onto her and then leaving Eidolon in a room with her. Eidolon then introduces her to his sturdy medical equipment and the wall of her room, but then after realises that he was unable to satisfy her. Oopsie. We then learn that Tara is generally unable to have sex with males due to her witnessing her mother being brutually raped, tortured, flayed, and killed by a Soulshredder demon. But before she confesses this terribly traumatic incident to E, you can bet that he doesn’t ever really stop trying to get her over the happy rainbow which makes for plenty of incredibly steamy reading. This is why I am now addressing you, my fellow humans, from an iced bath.

Inevitably, Eidolon and Tara come to trust each other amidst all the nakedness and then eventually, love. DAMNIT. Tara herself goes through a complete mind overhaul as she begins to realise that peaceful demons do exist and that the Aegis have been incredibly wrong about their views on demons. It’s sad though that it takes a large chunk of the book before Tara finally sheds her Aegis way of thinking and that Yuri, a demon captured midway through the book, had to have a red hot poker shoved up his button, tortured, and then killed (by the gleeful Aegis) for her to get there. But Eidolon doesn’t ever really leave her side (nor does his large stethoscope ever relax) throughout it all.

So my fellow citizens of earth, “Pleasure Unbound” is one hell of a read. The mystery surrounding Tara and the shady organisation hunting demon parts is enough to keep ones fingers flipping the page but throw in Eidolon’s desire to bond with Tara (in the demon sense of the word) and the fact that he is on the cusp of S’genesis makes this book an epic. The kind you take with you to pee because putting it down for even that one minute is impossible. EEEEEIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOONNN!! *Ahem*. That was my claiming war cry. For those of you ripmybodice readers, I trust you know what this means, and I’ll thank you for not putting your hands on him. He’s going to be my date to the next Manwich party.

Your friendly neighbourhood reviewer,

Sheridan Sakura Carlotta.

Oh man I cannot wait to find out what Shane’s curse is! Shane’s adorable but you gotta love a man who graduated from Harvard med school and who fills out a pair of jeans like clingwrap on ripe melons. *makes squeezing action with hands*

jeepers-creepers- can we get these loons out of here. How the heck does spam get in anyway-

I can’t call any of these guys for a manwich because I haven’t read them yet. But I am going tomorrow to pick it up. Thanks for a new read.

BTW- I have just finished reading CARA NORTH- she has a few books in print, I read all 4 in 3 days. I HIGHLY praise “The Art of Ethan” and “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off” (Tease Publishing) they are both the first books in separate series. Check it out and then you will see who is my next manwich!! I am so calling these guys in advance of your reading these books.

Tee hee. I was wondering why you didn’t call any dibs Lauren..but hey I ain’t complaining ;). Wraith seems…too angsty for me but his ability to enter a woman’s mind and keep her in some sort of eternal waking sex dream is kinda hot.

cpg - I hear you. We’ve been battling a massive spam bot overload here at RMB and I swear sometimes it seems almost like a losing battle against the forces of Mordor. I’m pretty sure you’ll like the series. Remember, dibs on E!! Dibs on E!! PS - Thanks for the recs! You’ve never let us down before so you know we’re going to be trooping to our nearest store to wipe out the North, Cara shelf today :)

CPG - I LOVE Cara North. I read Tequila makes her clothes fall off and She Thinks My Tractors Sexy. Totally loved them. I have the Beaumont series standing by ready to go. I might have to bump it up the TBR pile a bit!

Hola Jessica, I love Larissa Ione. My lucky stars were definately shining on me when I discovered that one. And very mucho gracias Valerie for the tip off. I’m going to be clearing out Sydney Croft’s shelf at the bookstore as soon as it opens *stares at clock greedily*

Hi Billi - I don’t know if Wraith’s book is out yet at my local bookstore but I sincerely hope she never stops writing post Wraith! (Though honestly I’m not so sure I care so much about the human Aegis and Tara’s sis).

Fabulous review! I completely agree. The Demonica series has captured me and I am now its prisoner. Shade and Wraith’s books are fabulous too! This is probably silly to mention now, I’ll sound like a nitpicker, but I’m pretty sure the heroine’s name is Tayla (instead of Tara) in Pleasure Unbound. Still, you guys write the best reviews! <3
