“Lily” by Patricia Gaffney
A word of caution: if you’re repelled by alpha jerk heroes or think that old skool romances should be relegated to the doghouse along with bicycle shorts and tofu, don’t even dream of picking up this one. On the other hand, if you’re in the mood for soap opera plots, a down-trodden heroine and a jerk(off) hero, follow me down the rabbit hole, as we embark on yet another book in my Patricia Gaffney glom.

Reasons why the RMB girls will each be owning 40 cats in the near future
It was just the other day that Mimi had arrived back at the RMB offices muttering something about wanting to find her carving knife, right after her second date with Mr. X. Now we could have told her that Mr. X ain’t gonna be Mr. Right (who by the way, is the poorer cousin of Mr. Alpha Right), since Mr. X possessed neither the good looks, charm, a robust bank account balance, nor the tortured soul of an Alpha Male. Having relayed this story to Mimi’s Grand Aunt Mimsy over tea at the Waldorf the other day, she had rolled her eyes heavenward (while sipping daintily on her Darjeeling) and exclaimed “Darlings! I’ve known you girls forever, and I don’t want to see you three gorgeous girls end up alone with 40 cats as your only companion, and smelling like a combination of catfood and catnip!”

“Heart of Fire” by Kat Martin
Sheridan and I were at the bookstore near the RMB offices the other day (this was before the delivery of our Patricia Gaffney books) and trying to decide what to read. Thin Pale Scary Lady floated like a wraith from behind the counter, and handed me the latest Kat Martin book. I must confess, I’ve liked a lot of Kat Martin books in the past, but her new books have left a decided chill factor (more on that later). But not knowing the delight which was lying in store for me (i.e “To Have And To Holdâ€) I thought, what the heck, I have nothing to lose. Except possibly my appetite, time, and hair from excessive tugging.

“To Have and to Hold” by Patricia Gaffney
Before Lola starts with this review, let me tell you, that the path to obtaining this book was fraught with landmines- delayed shipments from Amazon marketplace, a mix-up in the delivery address. Think Indiana Jones trying to get his hands on the Holy Grail. Anyway, the 2 copies of “To Have and To Hold†which we ordered mysteriously ended up in Alaska, before making their way to our beloved pink stucco RMB offices. When the books finally arrived, Sheridan and I (having the attention spans of a pair of butterflies with ADD) had moved on to other things, other books, other authors. I was just showing Sheridan the new gold Y-Mail bag courtesy of Monsieur St Laurent that I had bought, when our postman showed up, looking around nervously (as we have an unfortunate tendency to pounce on him whenever new books arrive).

“All Night With the Boss” by Natalie Anderson
Here’s a little trivia for you – Sheridan Sakura Carlotta’s first bona fide Romance novel ever read, was an old tattered and slightly yellowed Harlequinn Romance paperback she had found in her attic while attempting to pack away all her old high school pom poms and cheerleading trophies one ordinary summer’s day. The plot? Gorgeous rich and successful boss, poor part-time secretary who had disguised her good looks in order to land the job. It is no wonder therefore that my favorite Romance Hero of all time is Matthew “I will give you paradise†Farrell, he of the successful corporate raider who can raid my panty drawer any time he likes.

Prudence Walker is minding her own business. Out in a storm looking for Sebastian and calling his name frantically.Sebastian Kerr the Highwayman is minding his own business. Out in a storm, trying to rob a stagecoach. When he hears Prudence calling his name and attention diverted, ends up shot.
Only thing is, Prudence has really been calling for her cat, Sebastian, and when she stumbles across an injured highwayman, what’s a girl to do but seek shelter from the storm in a little hut, together with aforementioned highwayman. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Sebastian is one tall, hunky Scot with a brogue that makes you want to curl up against him and rub him down. Only because he’s been caught in the rain of course.

“The Accidental Mistress” by Tracy Anne Warren
If ever there was a story featuring a deliciously perfect piece of man meat who wanted nothing more than to love, honor and cherish a young nubile heroine but the latter refuses to partake of said meat because she would rather maintain her independence, this is it. Now personally I’ve never understood the principle as my momma had always told me to never EVER deny an Alpha Male who wants a piece of your ass. I believe in common parlance it is the equivalent of “never look a gift horse in the mouthâ€. Whatever it is, I’ve always lived by that principle. Always act! Never hesitate! I mean, if Gerard came up to me with his smoldering eyes and said “Sheri darling, I…†I’d be stripped naked lying spread eagle on his bed in two shakes of a horses’ tail.

“Shadow Dance” by Julie Garwood
Dear reader, I am confused. I have been confused about this book ever since I finished it a couple of days ago while lying by the fireplace sipping my mug of hot cocoa, and I am confused now, seated at my desk writing this review. I really liked this book and didn’t put it down once I started but yet I didn’t like it. I love Noah Clayborne (have secretly loved him since “Heartbreaker” and was quite eagerly anticipating his story), but I swear to the Almighty that there were times I wanted to organize a search party for his missing set of Alpha Male balls.

“The Wicked Ways of a Duke” by Laura Lee Guhrke
The most unfortunate thing about “The Wicked Ways of A Duke” by Laura Lee Guhrke is that the cover features a shot of the hero, with moobs bigger than mine. That depressing thought aside, TWWOAD was a great book, and another worthy addition to the Girl Bachelors series (the first being “And Then He Kissed Her”- love that title.)

“Silk and Steel” by Kat Martin
So if you’re in the mood for a pretty dark chocolate romance with lots of angst and soap opera worthy plots, why not try “Silk and Steel There’s little (if any) humour here though, so don’t expect any cuter critter pets that could come only from Jennifer Crusie, or madcap capers a la Janet Evanovich’s “Stephanie Plum†series. Yup, it’s pretty much a cocktail of depression, drama and danger. So if your interest’s piqued, dive in, loves!
