“The Patient Nurse” by Diana Palmer
Lola, Sheridan and Mimi were lounging around the RMB offices, taking a break from their hectic schedules of writing reviews, reading novels, eating nachos and plotting world domination. By mutual agreement, it was decided that we would watch a few episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, just to refresh ourselves as to what’s going on in the lives of Seattle’s finest. 2 days and many episodes later, Lola stumbled out into the sunshine, with doctors, doctors, doctors on her mind.

To mark the end of another great book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, we’ve come up with a quiz to:
(a) let you reaffirm your love for your Brother;
(b) decide which Brother is the one for you;
(c) determine if you are indeed a BDB fan (because you know which Brother you want and should be able to pick the correct answers for each question); or
(d) remind you that there’s another BDB book coming next year, but unless JR Ward can work some big time mojo jojo magic, is likely to pale in comparison with Lover Unbound.

“Breathing Room” by Susan Elizabeth Philips
Ahhh Italy. Land of evil (yet yummy) carbohydrates, amazing fashion, gorgeous shoes, gelatos, flirty sexy men, fantastic wines and George Clooney (for a few months out of a year). There is nothing Sheridan Sakura Carlotta doesn’t adore about Italy (any country shaped like a shoe is a country to be buried in) If Sheridan didn’t love her ripmybodice girls so much, she’d be ‘I Love Lucy-ing’ down at some vineyard, and getting her skirts dirty with some of the local boys.

“Wicked Promise” by Kat Martin
I was clearing out the bookshelves in my RMB office the other day, to make way for the explosion of books which seems to have come in recent months. When you start to discover books tucked away in your underwear drawer, something needs to be done my friend. (Sheridan and Mimi are also presently AWOL, after an unfortunate incident yesterday involving Sheridan’s Chrysler Building tower of books, an unsuspecting Mimi who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and subsequent urgent need for a forklift.) Sandwiched between some of my books was my old copy of “Daddy Long Legs,†which I had read and loved when I was younger. Hence, being in the mood for a slightly OTT book featuring an older guardian hero and his innocent ward, but with decidedly not PG-13 tastes any longer, I decided to reread “Wicked Promise†by Kat Martin.

“Midnight Angel” by Lisa Marie Rice
“Midnight Angel” is the third in Lisa Marie Rice’s “Midnight” trilogy, and features a beauty and the beast premise. La Lola is a sucker for beauty and the beast plots, and no prizes for guessing which is my favourite fairy tale. I drove Sheridan and Mimi a bit crazy for a while, insisting that every time we hosted a dinner party we had to put on French accents while singing “Be Our Guest” and twirl around trying to dance with the furniture. “Midnight Angel” doesn’t come complete with talking crockery and an enchanted castle, but it’s a modern twist on the Beauty and the Beast legend that’s very sweet. That is if you ignore the explicit sex scenes, but why would you want to?

“In Death” series by JD Robb
The “In Death” series is truly the juggernaut of the romance world, a behemoth which has acquired a life of its own. Set in the semi-distant future, it traces the path of Lieutenant Eve Dallas, a cop in the NYPD, and her relationship with her scrummy hubby, Roarke (”Call me Roarke. Just Roarke.”) Not only is Roarke practically perfect in every way, he also has fabulous fashion sense, has impeccable taste and is basically the epitome of urbane sophistication. The man has class coming out of his ass. (Who says La Lola ain’t classy?) It could just be me, but if we didn’t read so many scenes with Roarke getting it on with Eve, I could be inclined to think that the man swings a little a bit to the left.

According to Dictionary.com: Grovel \Grov”el\, verb\ To creep on the earth, or with the face to the ground; to lie prone, or move uneasily with the body prostrate on the earth; to lie fiat on one’s belly, expressive of abjectness; to crawl.
According to La Lola: Grovel\ heart-wrenching moment in romance novels where the hero, having realised how greviously he has wronged the heroine, must beg his way back into her good graces and her bed. The Grovel whenever it occurs in romance novels is also a treasured find for La Lola, much akin to taking a wrong turn and accidentally stumbling upon a designer sample sale.

“Lover Unbound” by JR Ward
Ma’mselle Mimi flings her door open and emerges clutching The Book to her chest, stroking its shiny blue cover. Making her way to the now-complete JR Ward Shrine, she carefully sits The Book on its stand (complete with spotlights) and replaces the bullet-proof glass cover.
For the past 6 months, since Butch’s book “Lover Revealedâ€, I have told one and all that “Lover Unboundâ€, the story of my main man, Vishous, will be better than all the books in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, that it will be, to put it bluntly, DA BOMB.

“Edge of Midnight” by Shannon McKenna
There’s no denying it, Sean McCloud is psychotic. And there is no doubt about how much psychotic heroes are loved and welcomed here at ripmybodice.com (see Ivan Tramore, and any of the other McCloud brothers) but Sean dances dangerously on the line of “omg he’s so psychotic how hot is that??†versus “omg he’s so psychotic, Mimi! Tranq gun! Now!!â€, and then wave goodbye as the men in white coats and butterfly nets take him away to a lifetime of electro-shock therapy and finger painting. And yet, there was something…truly sweet and heartbreaking about Sean’s character, underneath all his clownish, crude, cat without its kitty litter for way too long behavior. So Sheridan decided that to make a pro-con list, of the things that were good and not so good about “Edge of Midnightâ€, Shannon McKenna’s latest offering about the wildest ladies man of clan McCloud, so that you, dear readers, are able to come to your own decision on whether this is a keeper, or a “please take this book away from me before I hurt itâ€.

“Out of Control” by Shannon McKenna
So little tidbit for you guys out there. La Lola is the eldest of 4 kids. Which I think is a fair explanation for my forceful personality and take-charge attitude, although Sheridan and Mimi insist a likelier explanation is that I made a pact with Satan. (All lies!) Hence, I like books with the eldest sibling as hero/ heroine, because I can identify with the whole “listen to me and do what I say or I’ll turn you into a splotch†approach to fraternal bonding. But swear to God, my siblings adore me!
