Let’s get ready to rumble

if you deceive“If You Deceive” by Kresley Cole
Bewarned. The clash of the titans is upon us. It’s King Kong v Godzilla, Hannibal v Clarice, Hulk Hogan v The Ultimate Warrior, Britney Spears v Hair extensions. And now, Ma’mselle Mimi v La Lola. Yes, you heard me. The onetime erstwhile good friends have found themselves on separate sides of the fence. On the side of the angels, there is La Lola. (Hello, I AM writing this after all). On the dark side, there is Ma’mselle Mimi.

Afternoon delight

The Prize“The Prize” by Julie Garwood

From the offices of ripmybodice.com…

>>> La Lola 29/08/2007 10:18AM >>>
Hey SSC, I’m taking a wee break from the Alphahood which is Shannon McKenna. (Must be careful not to overdose on testosterone). So I was thinking of going back and reading one of those oldie but goodies. Maybe something from Julie Garwood. What would you recommend?

A slice of life, soaked in vodka

“Seduction”“Seduction” by Amanda Quick

It was a dark and stormy night. The perfect weather for a Romance novel since no one could leave the ripmybodice.com offices without getting their respective Ferragamo / Jimmy Choos / Gucci shoes wet and lord knows that none of the girls like it when their gorgeous shoes are sullied by rainwater. So having asked her trustt Cabana boy Juan to rustle up a Caesar salad (”Easy on the dressing, heavy on the bacon!”), Sheridan Sakura Carlotta ambled into the ripmybodice.com “Library of Lurve” and headed in particular, to a corner entitled “SSC’s stack of goodies”. She pondered a while, on what she should read next, having only recently recovered from the searingly hot “A Hunger Like No Other” that left the couch she was reclining on at the time slightly singed. “The full moon has come and gone,” she muttered. “Where is that damned werewolf of mine?” Mimi, who was also in the Library of Lurve at the time reading one of Kresley Cole’s historicals, scurried out, not wanting to be part of Sheridan Sakura Carlotta’s mutterings (which sometimes have a tendency to turn violent).

Climb every mountain

“My favourite bride”“My Favourite Bride” by Christina Dodd
La Lola was flipping through cable channels the other day when she stumbled onto “The Sound of Music.” Squeals of delight were emitted, as I lunged to grab Sheridan and Mimi to watch it with me. Sadly for them, they don’t think that “Sound of Music” is one of the greatest musicals ever. (Sacrilege!) The only way I could get them to stay was by telling them we could play a drinking game. Every time Captain Von Trapp (aka Christopher Plummer) blew his whistle (squeal!) we took a shot of tequila. I had the hugest crush on Captain Von Trapp when I was a wee tot.

Armed and dangerous

“Dangerous Lover” by Lisa Marie Rice
Lisa Marie Rice’s book “Dangerous Lover” is a good choice for a snowy winter’s day. It’s the equivalent of hot chocolate with a dash of brandy to spice things up. And Jake Prescott, hero of “Dangerous Lover” is one hot toddy, s’all I’m saying.

A break in the clouds

“Man in control” by Diana Palmer“Man In Control” by Diana Palmer
OK, so La Lola decided to take a break from her Shannon McKenna run, simply because there’s a limit to the amount of unfulfilled lust that even I can handle. (Yes, really.) Plus I think Mimi and Sheridan are disturbed because I’ve been walking around in a haze, asking them if I should tattoo “Connor McCloud” on my left cheek and “Seth Mackey” on my right. (Note to readers: not the ones on my face) So I picked up my trusty copy of “Man in Control” by Diana Palmer, kicked off my Gold Gucci platforms and settled back to immerse myself in a simpler world where the women are plain and shy and misunderstandings and cowboys reign supreme.

Constant craving

"A hunger like no other" by Kresley Cole“A Hunger Like No Other” by Kresley Cole

First of, I’d like to say, that this review would not have been possible without Supervixen and her super hot recommendation of this sizzler of a book, “A Hunger Like No Other” by Kresley Cole. This book is so hot, I’d recommend reading with a pair of oven mitts and a cool glass of something non-alcoholic to prevent flamage of beddings/furniture. So this review is dedicated to her (take a bow Supervixen! You’re welcome to come by our headquarters anytime! (I’ll get Juan to give you the unofficial ripmybodice.com tour! *wink*)). Second, I have to confess that I’m not a huge fan of the paranormal. Vampires I can handle and maybe the occasional werewolf (Buffy the Vampire Slayer was my all time favorite show (Hello evil Spike? Evil Angel? So hot)) but vampires, Valkyries, Lykaes and Witches? This little mind of mine can only suspend so much disbelief before the line snaps. So. This is what I know from the supernatural world that has been created by Kresley Cole. All the different species hate each other. In truth though, this whole “other world” thing doesn’t quite matter since all you take away with in this book is (a) the incredibly hot sexual chemistry/tension between the two characters; (b) Lachlain’s (the hero, and king of the Lykae clan) soul-deep hunger for Emmaline; and (c) the intense need to get your ass to Scotland pronto.

Make mine a triple decker club sandwich with extra mayo

“Standing in the Shadows” by Shannon McKenna“Standing in the Shadows” by Shannon McKenna
Connor. Connor, Connor, Connor. Why do you do this to me? Why? You know I am in love with your friend Seth Mackey from “Behind Closed Doors“, and yet you persist in making me question my feelings for him, and make me look like a lusty, hoparound rabbit who flits from one berry patch to the next! Why, Connor? Why do you insist on tempting me with your berries?? But do not fret, I am sure yours are big berries. VERY big berries. Nay, make that frolicking in your cantaloupe patch.

Slave to Love

“Prisoner of My Desire” by Johanna Lindsey“Prisoner of My Desire” by Johanna Lindsey

La Lola isn’t the biggest Johanna Lindsey fan. What can I say, I’ve never been one to hop on the Mallory train, and I’m not about to start now, given some of the things I’ve heard about her recent books. But I do think “Prisoner of My Desire,” one of her most controversial books ever, is a very engaging read. Don’t read it if you’re faint of heart. After all, it was written during a time when Fabio reigned supreme and being dragged around by your hair constituted foreplay.

I am the eye in the sky, looking at you, I can read your mind.

“Behind Closed Doors”- Shannon McKenna“Behind Closed Doors” by Shannon McKenna
So when “Behind Closed Doors” arrived in the post, I fell upon the package like that Japanese dude with the hot dogs. String was ripped apart and paper went flying (but bubble wrap was carefully put away so that La Lola could indulge in therapeutic bubble popping at her leisure).
