Oh to warm a kilt!
“Ransom” by Julie Garwood
From the notebook of Sheridan Sakura Carlotta:
* Must ask Juan for another backrub. Don’t forget to ask him to take off his shirt first. Seems to be suspicious of the fact that we keep asking him to take off shirt - no longer seems to believe that it is stated in our lease agreement that we must have least one half nekkid man at all times in our offices. Must confer with La Lola on new plan.
* Must write new review.
* Julie Garwood not yet featured on fabulous website (Ma’mselle Mimi is my hero (must remind her of this so she will keep working on our website because am useless at anything IT related. Also must remind and agree with her that Vishous is hers to keep her happy.)) Julie Garwood used to write funny, light-hearted historicals that were sometimes so sweet and heartbreaking that physical heart actually hurt. Must schedule appointment with cardiologist soon.
* Julie Garwood no longer writes funny, light-hearted historicals but instead, writes murder-mystery Romance novels. WHY?! Conspiracy with Ms McNaught? Collaboration? Artistic exploration? Sign of the apocalypse?: All good questions. Must discuss with La Lola.
* Favorite book: “Ransom”. Because it is funny and also, have fetish for Scottish lairds- Must visit Scotland.
* Why is it called Ransom? Interesting. Never noticed before. Also, why is there a picture of a gate with a mansion in the background? - Must resolve not to think too much. Brain hurts when I do - Must schedule appointment with neurology also. I wonder if doctor will look like McDreamy. I heart McDreamy!
* Main character is Brodick Buchanan, laird of one of the fiercest/meanest clans in the Highlands. Large man whose manly presence make grown men want to weep/hide, known for his “kill first, ask questions later” mentality. Brutal savage killer. I like. Secondary character is Ramsey Sinclair, the cool, calm negotiator, apparently handsome as sin but yet underneath has a temper and capacity for violence that exceeds Brodick. I also like.
* Plot of book: one of the other laird’s son (also Brodick’s god-son or something like that) has gone missing and is found/saved by Gillian (English girl) who has been beaten up by the baddies and therefore is in need of dire saving herself. Gillian pretends to be Brodick’s bride and sends for him. It worked. - Must attempt this on Daniel Craig. Brodick meets her and is attracted to her, all possessive and sh*t (as they all are). Brodick later tricks Gillian into marrying him with the help of good friend Ramsey: Must also attempt this on Daniel Craig when he shows up; will enlist La Lola, find a cliff, a priest and several horses. Several scenes of the book devoted to Brodick trying to work up the courage to tell her. V. cute! One of the best scenes ever! When Gillian finds out, not too upset (clever girl that one). Brodick carries her off to some cottage to make her his wife. Damnit.
* Sub-plot of book sees Bridget, a member of clan Ramsey, pining for him and rejecting other suitors (apparently a lot because she is v. pretty but Ramsey is an idiot and doesn’t notice her, preferring instead a buxom widow to warm his kilt). Somehow or another, Ramsey finds himself oddly protective of her but yet, doesn’t want to marry her because it would not be a political marriage (Ramsey is in the midst of a merger with another clan). Ramsey becomes attracted to her, all possessive and sh*t.
* Sensing pattern here.
* Also seen in book, betrayal, treason, exciting brutal fight scene where all the lairds show up (very hot), the King of England (not so hot).
* Part where Ramsey and Brodick find out that their women are in danger and rush to go save them is very hot. Also very hot? When the men seek revenge! - Must try to get window seat on flight to Scotland. See whether it is possible to hire a horse to take self to rural highland parts; perhaps there be some Scottish man descendant from some clan unwilling to let go of the past so will be running around in kilt.
* Must make sure that he is actually quite rich, so living in the wilderness is a choice made. Must also research on whether there be a way to bring in a heater, a hot tub and a walk in wardrobe to the wilderness.
* Must re-think plan on account that remembered distaste for grass and the outdoors. Huh.

Yesyes this is one of my favourite books as well! I cannot however say that Broderick/Ramsey is the perfect man for me as it is no secret that my heart belongs only to Matthew Farrell and when I mean Matthew Farrell, I really mean Gerard James Butler. Gerard!! I am available!!!

My friend, I really must protest… by PERFECT MAN, I meant BRODICK not Ramsey and certainly not Brodick/Ramsey! This really must be said of Ramsey… if not by me then no one will… he is such a superficial WUSS, I mean suddenly (like really suddenly! out of the blue! literally on the last few pages!) he realises and proposes to his woman when all throughout the book they have little contact (sexual or otherwise) with each other, their romance strikes me as an afterthought by Miss Garwood. I am really displeased. Hmmph! But what’s done is done, and after all she did create my Brodick Buchanan and in gratitude, I shall forgive her for shoddy character development with the calafare ‘hero’.
P.S. Gerard is hot! My favourite part was in 300 when he had to leave to fight Xerxes and he wanted to tell his wife he loved her but didn’t cause it was the ’spartan’ way Awwww! oh and him telling her that no amount of drunk or high virgins couldn’t diminish his lust for her! ultra awwww
P.P.S. It’s Brodick, not Broderick. Weird name I know! A pun on two suggestive words? I don’t know. For awhile I entertained thought of naming my future son that but then I don’t want his peers nicknaming him after the male sexual organ!

Lolz … The boy whom Gillian saved was Iain Maitland’s son (from “The Secret”, loved it!).
Now Brodick was like … UmMmMMm … *sigh* … right!
I hadn’t much thought to spare for Ramsey but overall, it was H.O.T (ever since I read “The Secret” and also, even after liking Iain quiet a lot, I was SO looking forward for Brodick in action and action I got … ahhh)!!! … *grins*
love the review
